The Theatre Bath Bus, which has been funded by members of the community, is set to launch in Bath this April. The Theatre Bus will be appearing on Brunel Square as part of Bath Comedy Festival from Thursday 6 until Tuesday 11 April. There will be an open day on Sunday 9 April from 12pm – 5pm where members of the public can hop on board, explore the bus, and chat to the team about using it for their events. This will be followed by a private launch party for sponsors in the evening allowing backers to experience first-hand what their support has created.
The year-long project has seen the conversion of an 11 metre long single decker bus be fully converted from a passenger bus into a mobile venue which will be available to serve communities in and around the local area. The bus can be used for a diverse range of projects which include theatre, comedy, poetry, music, workshops, seminars, meeting space, cinema and party spot.
Luke John Emmett, creator of the Theatre Bath Bus comments:
“A year ago this project was just a crazy dream and we’ve been overwhelmed by the support of the community in Bath and further afield to help us realise this project and make it a reality. The bus has really captured people’s imaginations and booking enquiries are already flying in from a range of diverse projects. We must say a massive thank you to Nick Steel at Bath Comedy Festival and the team at SouthGate Bath for enabling us to appear in such a central location. What we have created is a blank canvas that can be used by anyone in the community to help them realise their projects and more importantly get work out to areas that have little or no engagement with the arts.”
Zoe Bailey, co-creator says:
“We are all really excited to launch the Theatre Bath Bus. We have put in a great deal of work over the past year and now we can start to facilitate organisations to use this fantastic space. The Theatre Bath Bus can benefit everyone in the arts community and beyond.”
Plans are already afoot to take the bus to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2018 where a group of fifty local young people will perform three different shows for a week at the world renowned festival. From then, who knows? The Theatre Bath Bus is open for booking, and with the ability to go anywhere, the only limit is your imagination.
The Theatre Bus team look forward to meeting you on Sunday 9 April 12pm – 5pm.
